Payment is made directly to the practice at the time of service. I am not in network with insurance panels.
I provide the invoicing you need to file with your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement. What they reimburse is between you and your plan.
Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours ahead. Inside 48 hours, the session is charged. The hour was held for you.
When an insurer pays, the insurer gets a say. It wants a diagnosis in your permanent record before the first session is over. It wants to decide how many sessions your problem is worth and to review the notes that justify them.
That changes the work. It pushes the hour toward documentation and away from you. Staying out of network keeps the room between the two of us, keeps your record yours, and keeps the length of the work tied to what you actually need.
It also keeps me solo. No billing department, no panel requirements, no third party deciding when you are finished.
Many plans reimburse some portion of out-of-network outpatient mental health care. I give you the superbill. You submit it to your plan.
Before you start, call the number on your card and ask three things: do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits, what is my out-of-network deductible and how much of it have I met, and what percentage do you reimburse after that. Write down the answers and who you spoke to.
It is worth knowing what that document actually is, because the word gets used as though everyone was born understanding it. A superbill is an itemized receipt. It lists the practice and my credentials, your name, the dates you were seen, the service code for each session, a diagnosis code, and what you paid. That is all it is. It is not a claim, it is not a promise, and it does not go anywhere on its own.
What you do with it is send it to your insurer, either through the member portal or by mail, usually with a short claim form of theirs attached. Then you wait. If your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits and you have met the relevant deductible, some portion may come back to you directly. If it does not have those benefits, nothing comes back. I have no involvement in that decision and I will not tell you what to expect, because I would be guessing about a contract between you and your plan that I have never read.
A superbill includes a diagnosis code, because insurers require one to process a claim. If you would rather no diagnosis exist anywhere, say so and we will talk about it before you file anything. That choice is yours to make deliberately rather than to discover later.
Your hour is a specific hour. It is not a slot in a pool that somebody else can drop into at short notice. When you book it, it comes off the schedule and stays off, which means it is unavailable to anyone else for that week.
Forty-eight hours is roughly the amount of notice that lets that hour go to someone who needs it. Inside that window it almost never can, so the session is charged. That is the entire reasoning. It is not a penalty and it is not a lesson.
There is a second reason and it is the more important one. The work depends on turning up on the weeks you would rather not. Most people feel the strongest urge to cancel right before the session that would have mattered most. A policy that makes skipping frictionless quietly guarantees you will skip exactly then. Life happens, and when it does we talk about it like adults.
The goal is change. Twenty-six years of bringing meaningful change to people’s lives. Were that not the case, I would not still be practicing.
You are not buying an hour of company. You are buying a direct look at what is not working and the work of changing it. That is the whole product.
The objection I hear most often is that this is expensive, and I am not going to argue with the feeling. What I will do is put it next to the alternative. Look at what the current arrangement is already costing: the evenings lost to an argument that repeats, the sleep, the short temper your kids are learning to read, the work you are doing at seventy percent because the other thirty is occupied. Those are real costs and you are paying them now, quietly, without a receipt.
This is also not indefinite. There is no insurer here requiring a set number of sessions and no incentive on my end to stretch the work out. You come until the thing you came for has moved, and then you stop. Most people can tell within a few weeks whether it is moving, which is a faster answer than most purchases of comparable weight will give you.
And you are not committing to any of that by making a phone call. The first conversation is about fit. If I am not the right person, I will say so early rather than late.

Text or call and ask. It is a short conversation and you will get a straight answer.
If calling is more than you want to do today, text.
